“What a difference Heather’s expertise and service made for my third baby!”

-Krista K.

For me, placenta encapsulation is personal

I first learned about Placenta Encapsulation and Placenta Pills in 2005. I was in the middle of a postpartum crisis, fighting my way out. I knew I wanted another baby but knew I couldn’t possibly go through another postpartum period like the one I was currently experiencing. After much research, I came across Placenta Encapsulation. It made sense. It felt right. At the end of 2006, I had my next baby and I had my first positive experience with placenta encapsulation. My reason for taking it was for my mental wellness, I was pleasantly surprised to find it recovered faster and had more energy than other postpartums! After that I had 2 more babies and of course I used my placenta pills for those postpartums as well!

What is Placenta Encapsulation?

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta for ingesting via capsules. That’s why they are also sometimes called Placenta Pills.

There are a few ways placenta encapsulation has been prepared through the years: Raw, Traditional Chinese, Steamed and Raw Start.

Raw Start-   Preliminary research has shown this method contains more progesterone and reduces bacteria levels to food safe levels.  Raw Start is dehydrated at a higher temperature for a longer period of time.   You can read the research here.

Steamed- Similar to TCM but with no herbs or aromatics.   This method contains less progesterone than Raw Start but kills the most bacteria.    This method is the preferred method if you tested positive for GBS.

Raw- the placenta is dehydrated at a low temperature, typically at 126 degrees or lower.   I do not offer this method, I feel it is unsafe to encapsulate a placenta at temperatures this low.  Preliminary research validates that.

TCM- The placenta is steamed with additions such as ginger, lemon, Cheyenne pepper and then dehydrated.  I do not offer this method.  It is my belief that the placenta is perfect the way it is and needs no additions.

I RECOMMEND

I highly recommend Raw Start.  The only time I recommend Steam is if you tested positive for Group B Strep.  If you haven’t been tested yet you can choose Raw Start and switch to GBS if you find out you are GBS positive.  Newest research  suggests Raw Start and Steamed are both safe methods to use if GBS positive.  You can read the research here.

Raw Start has a high amount of iron. In theory this iron would be utilized better by your body than forms that are not familiar to your body.  Research is showing that Iron plays a significant role in our postpartum wellness.

What are the benefits of Placenta pills?

Placenta pills are a wonderful, natural way to support the birthing parent during their postpartum recovery.  My theory is because it comes from your body all the nutrients within the placenta are more bioavailable to you than taking a synthetic or even natural supplement that didn’t come from you.
Research suggests is supports your mood, restores energy, faster recovery and increased milk supply.  My clients agree.  My clients report the same findings plus less postpartum hair shed!

I research all things placenta, holistic health, mental health, gene mutations and ways to help my son live to his optimal potential.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you and talking more about encapsulation and what it may do for your fourth trimester.
